Our friends Jane and Pete were kind enough to feed us a delicious gumbo dinner and provide us lodging overnight, even though they were leaving early the next morning for Cancun. They also let us plug into the wall, so our range went from 12 to 48 miles overnight. Hooray! That was more than enough to get me the 2 miles to the Courtyard Marriott where there is a fee-based EvGo fast CCS charger ($4.95 + $0.20/minute, so $10.95 for 30 minutes, which should get us about 90 miles of range). The first charge only got me 30 miles of range in 30 minutes, so I had the pleasure of getting on the phone with yet another EV service provider. They were nice, put in a ticket, and then let me continue charging at no extra cost. After another 30 minutes, we still only had 122 miles total, which was still less than we had hoped.

Fortunately, the Courtyard had free WWIFI, so here I am blogging as I wait (im)patiently to get to at least 80% charged (hopefully in this third 30 minute segment!)
Well, EVGO got us to 80% charged after an hour and a half (it was 23 degrees out when I started which may have been a factor).
Since chargers were few and far between on the rest of our route, I drove 3 miles to the North Hill target to use Free Level 2 charging to get to a full charge. I figured it was better to hang out at June’s house rather than a walmart parking lot (which is still, likely in our future). Both target chargers were being used by Leafs (grrr- they also didn’t bother to check in on Plushshare, so did not show up as occupied on the app). So I went off to find the two chargers at the nearby REI, which were really hard to find. I circled the REI once before parking and running into the store for directions. Sadly, both of those chargers were also in use by Leafs (again not reflected in the plugshare app). So off I went to the third and final option in this area- parking garage (4242 six forks Rd). Once again, I found it hard to find the chargers, but it only took one loop around the building to find the chargers. I got the fourth and final spot. Phew! It was going to take almost 3 hours to fully charge. So I hopped on my folding bike and rode the 3 miles back to Jane’s. What a production! At 1:15, charging was complete. I rode back, picked up Geoff and our gear, and we hit the road for segment 3 of our road trip!
