Here's an overview of the best dating sites on the market. My recommendations are based primarily on my own experiences in the online dating platform arena as a woman, with some word-of-mouth impressions from friends thrown in for good measure.

So what are you waiting for? Sign up for these top dating sites or apps, start chatting and maximize your chances of meeting your perfect match. We'll update this list periodically.

Bumble is basically Tinder for women... and on a timer. Bumble is a free dating app that requires women to message first. If the guy doesn't message back within 24 hours, he loses the potential dates. Because that's the one thing my love life was really missing: Arbitrary time limits.

The timer is designed to encourage contact and some people really do appreciate that feature. But if you're someone who procrastinates, Bumble may not be for you. Because women must message first, Bumble tends to weed out the more insecure males from the dating pool. However, the rate of overly confident men tends to be higher than I've seen on other apps. Bumble also has a BFF feature to help you meet new people, but that's really not our focus, so I'll save it for another time.

Whether you're looking for a casual hookup, potential date, friendship or an LTR (long term relationship), Tinder has you covered. It's basically the first stop for those entering the dating world. If you want to play the odds when it comes to online dating, you need to be swiping where everyone's swiping.

On the upside, the profiles are brief, which helps you to make decisions quickly. The downside is that a short dating profile makes it harder to figure out what a lot of people are looking for. Knowing very little about a person can also make initial messaging a lot more challenging. You'll need to wade through a sea of profiles, which makes it easy to pass over people you might have given a chance under different circumstances.

OkCupid, how you confuse me. I have friends who've met their ideal match and even spouses through OkCupid. My last serious relationship came from the OkCupid dating service. In fact, I've been on OkCupid on and off, for roughly the last 11 years. Profiles are a lot more in-depth than most online dating sites and if you answer a seemingly endless series of questions (much like a personality test), they will spit out a reasonable Match/Enemy percentage ratio on profiles to help you gauge compatibility based on interests.

Changes in the last few years have made OkCupid a bit more like Tinder (both owned by the same company), focusing more on swiping and eliminating the ability to message a user without matching with them first. Online daters can still send a message -- it just won't show up in the recipient's inbox unless you match. Because who doesn't enjoy sending a thoughtful message to someone who might never see it? However, OkCupid has pointed out that these changes did help lower the number of offensive messages and fake profiles people received, which might be a worthwhile trade-off. Unfortunately in my experience OkCupid has become a bit of an online dating app ghost town.

Hinge

Hinge finally won me over, becoming my favorite dating app last year. Originally the app focused on common connections and mutual friends that you and a potential partner shared on Facebook, which was a gimmick I was never sold on. But it has since pivoted away from this model. Hinge has designed the app to make user profiles more engaging (and helpful) than on apps like Tinder. You have the option of displaying a lot of useful information that could be deal breakers: Your political leanings, your religion, your alcohol consumption frequency or even your interest level in having children someday. The prompts provided by Hinge make it easy to create more engaging profiles. Hinge's current slogan is 'designed to be deleted,' so if a potential match for a serious relationship is what you're looking for, this is the dating app I would recommend.

Coffee Meets Bagel hopes to offer people better-quality matches by sending curated daily matches, or 'bagels,' each day at noon. They suggest ice-breakers for first messages and the profiles are more in-depth than Tinder. For people who like a little extra hand-holding, CMB isn't the worst option. However, I found the app confusing to use, with too many features and a lot of gimmicks. I shouldn't have to look up online tutorials to figure out how to use a dating app. Plus why call matches Bagels?

I was also disappointed in the notifications, which I found too pushy. CMB was constantly 'gently' reminding me to message people I'd matched with. I eventually disabled the app after receiving the following notification: 'Show [match name] who's boss and break the ice today!' Should a potential future relationship be rooted in a hierarchical power dynamic? At the end of the day, I have friends who've had the perfect match on CMB, but it isn't one of my favorite online dating apps.

Happn matches you with people who are located nearby. It's a cool concept and helpful for people who want to meet someone in a more organic manner. That said, I've never met a single person who actually uses the app.

After signing up, Happn showed me 68 people it said I'd crossed paths with in the preceding 3 hours, though I hadn't left my apartment all day. This might be helpful if you're looking to date your immediate neighbors (or Uber drivers), but I don't see the attraction when competitors like Tinder already show the distance between you and other users. Frankly, if I saw an attractive guy in a coffee shop, I'd just approach him rather than check to see if he's on Happn. The app seems designed for people who don't want to use online dating sites but also don't want to approach people in real life. Pick a lane.

The League is an 'elite dating app' that requires you to apply -- and supply your job title, college and LinkedIn profile. Big cities tend to have long waiting lists, so you might find yourself twiddling your thumbs as your application to be one of the elite singles on the app is reviewed. (Of course, you can pay to expedite the process.) The exclusivity can be a draw for some and a turnoff for others, but I'll let you in on a secret: I've seen most of the profiles I come across on The League on other dating apps, too. So at the end of the day, you'll probably see the same faces for potential dates on Tinder, if you aren't deemed elite enough for The League.

Most dating apps are fairly LGBTQ inclusive. Still, it's nice to have an app to call your own. Her is tailored to lesbian, bisexual and queer women. It's a worthy notion -- but the app has some bugs and glitches that made it frustrating to use. Most of my queer female friends have told me they found the app 'just OK' and not perfect and that they usually end up back on Tinder or Bumble. Still I checked it regularly for some time and had a few pleasant conversations with actual human beings. Isn't that all we're really looking for in a dating app?

Clover tried to be the on-demand version of online dating sites, letting you order a date much like you would a pizza. It also provides numeric match predictions based on compatibility and interests, though it isn't entirely clear how those numbers are calculated.

I was on Clover for quite some time, but had since forgotten it existed until I started to compile this list. It strikes me as a less-successful hybrid of OkCupid and Tinder with a relatively small user base, even though I live in an urban area with plenty of people who use a wide variety of dating apps. Clover says it has nearly 6 million users, 85% of whom are between the ages of 18 and 30.

Plenty of Fish launched in 2003 -- and it shows. The problem I come across over and over again is that POF is filled with bots and scams, even though it may have the most users of any dating app. POF's issues don't mean you won't be able to find love on it, but the odds might be stacked against you. Unless you're into dating bots.

Match.com has a free version, but the general consensus is that you'll need a paid subscription to have any luck. That's a hangover from the early days of online dating sites, when a paid basic membership to a site meant you were serious about settling down. But my friends and I have long since come to the conclusion that you might be a little too eager to find a significant other or the perfect partner if you pay to get dates, particularly given the abundance of free dating apps. There are definitely paid features on some dating apps that are worth the price, but I've yet to be able to justify shelling out cash for love.

eHarmony/Apple

eHarmony was one of the pioneers among online dating site options, and -- while I haven't personally used this one -- we all remember the pitch for online daters, thanks to years of TV commercials: The service matches couples based on '29 dimensions' of compatibility and interests (as determined by a thorough relationship questionnaire and personality test). While you can review the profiles of your prospective matches for free, you'll need to pay to unlock the full features of the service. There's a three-month plan and a six-month plan, and they come with a guarantee: If, after three months of paid membership and communicating with at least five members, you're not satisfied, eHarmony will refund your money. Despite a rocky road that eventually involved a high-profile lawsuit, the site finally added same-sex dating in 2013. I have mixed feelings about using the site myself, but it's at least technically more inclusive now.

Have you had a good (or bad) experience with one of these services? Do you have any other online dating sites you'd recommend? Share your experiences in the comments or on social media.

I created this post as a guide to help you find the best online dating site and app for you. While I’ve dated around the world, the U.S. is where I’m from and is the country where I have done the most dating.

In addition to my own personal experience dating in the U.S., I’ve read a ton of reviews and listened to the experiences of friends who have tried out the various sites and apps below.

The United States of America is the undisputed heavyweight of online dating. Online dating in Brazil, Colombia, Argentina and other countries just cannot compare in terms of sheer membership numbers. The best online dating sites and apps in the U.S. have millions of members.

Even the second tier online dating sites and apps pack a punch with hundreds of thousands of members. If you are willing to put forth the effort it takes to browse through a lot of profiles and send hundreds of messages (and yes, I do mean hundreds because dating is a numbers game), you have what it takes to meet a lot of singles in the U.S., no matter where you are in the country.

The U.S. is so great for online dating because there is a site or app for pretty much any niche or interest you can imagine. The abundance of choice though has its advantages and disadvantages. The advantage of online dating in the U.S. is that you have millions of singles to choose from. The disadvantage is that there are a ton of bad online dating sites full of fake profiles and empty promises.

As I mention in my online dating e-book, when I started out, I had no clue what I was doing, and my money was going down the drain each month with no results (or girlfriend) to show for it. I realized over time that I was signing up for the wrong sites and, therefore, was not putting myself in the best position to succeed. Live and learn!

The websites I recommend below (by niche group) have been thoroughly researched and are the ones I recommend as you embark on your online dating journey. Enjoy reading and good luck!

General Dating Sites

eharmony.com:While Match.com used to be my favorite site, I now prefer eharmony. Match.com is a good site, but with eharmony, you will spend less time weeding through low quality profiles. If you are in the United States (or even Canada), eharmony is the first site I would sign up for (then I would strongly suggest signing up for Match as well because of it has so many members).

As a side note, it is worth paying for a good subscription on eharmony to have the highest level of functionality. Remember, your dating life, just like your career, is an investment that will pay off in the end with enough patience and diligence.

Sign up Process

Whereas Tinder and many other places try and match people solely on how the other looks, eHarmony attempts to go deeper, connecting couples on interests and personality. It is considered the most thorough examination of matching people up. Singles don’t just go on there and fill out a detailed profile of who they are and what they’re looking for; they also take a 150-question compatibility test that helps match them up with other potential partners. It’s not for a one-night fling; it’s more for the long haul.

No doubt, the questionnaire can be a pain. I’ll admit that I did eHarmony a few years back and found myself sitting there for 30-minutes taking this test thinking there has to be an easier way to find love. If you don’t have patience, don’t take it. It is time consuming.

However, unlike a few years back, the questionnaire is optional now. And it’s not 450 questions like it used to be. Still, many singles who are serious about dating want to take this test to see how they compare with others, so it’s a good idea to do it if you’re serious about love.

How to Locate Potential Matches

Once your profile is done, you’ll start getting matches based on your compatibility. Once the process of matching begins, remember that it may take some time. eHarmony is trying to find you a partner “for life,” and that means a little work on your (and their) part. Also, you won’t be searching or browsing partners. Instead, you’ll be presented with new matches each day to view and select from.

How to Communicate with Other Members

Many of your options for communication are based on membership level. You can communicate with matches most easily, but it’s also possible to communicate with non-matches. At higher levels you can unlock more communication options, like secure phone calls.

Unique Site Features

One of the unique features that sets eHarmony apart from the rest is its honest intention of matching you with a lifelong partner. This means you’re not expected to sift through endless fake profiles, or search for your own matches. The match system is a fresh breath of air for people tired of slogging through dating sites filled with creeps and fake profiles. You won’t be searching or using filters to find partners; you’ll be selecting from a pool collected to fit your match.

What is Included for Each Membership Level

There are three plans available through eHarmony:

1. The “basic plan” is the most simple package. It also charges the least to view photos of matches, request more photos, send and receive communication, see who has viewed your profile, and see online activity from your matches.

2. The “Total Connect Plan” gives you everything from the basic plan, but also offers an extended personality profile, RelyID (confirms who you are), and allows secure phone calls from your own phone.

3. The “Premier Plan” offers all of the above, along with some extra perks. If you’re not satisfied with the service after a year, you can get another twelve months to keep trying. You can also pause your account for up to three months, access to the “premier team” of E-Harmony experts to help you find a match, use RelyID and eHarmony secure check (which allows criminal background checks on up to three matches.)

Match.com:If online dating was boxing, Match.com would be in the heavyweight category. It is a site that has a large number of members, longevity, site functionality and pricing options. I used this site for two years while I was living in New York and had quite a few dates. Unlike eharmony though, I spent a lot more time weeding through lower quality profiles.

Match.com

Sign up Process

I like Match because the sign-up process and making of the profile is very easy and allows you to be very detailed. You can write essays if you want or you can be straight and to the point of who you are and what you want. Personally, I like being creative with your “About Me” and “What I’m looking for” section with some humor thrown in, and I like looking for someone who is the same. Remember, your goal is to stand out, so take some time making your profile. The more serious you are about dating, the more time you’ll want to spend on it. You can take compatibility tests like eHarmony has, but it’s only an option for you.

How to Locate Potential Matches

I also like Match because it’s very easy to navigate and filter out your results in what you’re looking for. There are a lot of people on Match—some 40+ million Americans–and when you do a search in your area and filter it by those who have been active in the last 24 hours, you’re going to find pages upon pages of results within 25 miles, assuming you live in a decent-sized town. The filter option is great because you can find anything you’re looking for, whether it be their type of body (slim, athletic, a few extra pounds, etc.), their ethnicity, their religion, political stance, whether they smoke or drink and so much more. You can search based on “mutual matches”, those members who you have a lot in common with and are more likely to connect with.

How to Communicate with Other Members

I guess my biggest issue with Match is the competitiveness of it. If you’re a guy like me, even those in your ballpark are hard to get responses back from. I would say for every 40 messages I send, I get one back. It’s a challenge. And of those 1-in-40s, at least 90% of those messages don’t make it past the third message. This is where sites like eHarmony may have the advantage in that you can’t just message anyone you want, only those you are compatible with.

You definitely have to be creative with your intro on Match, which I’ve tried to be. However, remember, if you’re a member and they aren’t, they won’t respond unless you have a membership that allows them to respond (part of the bigger packages). However, you can filter results to only message those who have a membership and can respond, which I think is great. You can also get a membership where you can see if they read it. You just have to have to thick blood because you’ll get a lot of people who read it and looked at your profile (which you can also see), and they never responded back.

For a woman, you can get a lot of messages from great looking guys, but looks can be deceiving. A lot of girls that go on Match feel like they are betrayed. The best advice for an attractive girl or just a regular guy is don’t always swing for the fence. Try and learn more about a person than just their face. A person can look a lot more attractive if their personality is perfect.

Unique Site Features

Match has a dating carousel like Tinder where you can vote “Yes” or “No” on someone’s main picture, and if you both say “yes”, it’ll show up as a match. You can’t dive into their profile and read more about them unless you have a paid membership. Match also has a lot of “get-togethers” for singles in your area. I’ve never personally have gone to one of these, but I would always get emails about them. It’s something to do if you have the time. You can also like photos of others, send them “winks” to let them know you’re interested and upload over 20 photos of yourself.

What is Included for Each Membership Level

Match does usually offer 7-day free trials for first-time members, which is great if you can find a girl or guy quickly (just remember to cancel your membership before that 7th day or they charge you). They also have one-month, three-month, six month and year-long memberships with better deals for the longer ones.

There are also basic packages and premier packages. Premier packages give you more benefits such as blocking, seeing if someone viewed your message, and allowing those non-members to message back.

Tinder: If you’re single and into the dating app or site scene, chances are you’ve at least taken a peek at Tinder, or considered it. You may not admit it, but that’s okay. Your secret is safe with me.

Tinder became popular several years ago as a free dating app where users could sign up and swipe right or left on whether they liked a partner. If they both swiped right, then you have a match; it shows up in your matches and you could message them, and well, the rest is history. There are many pros to Tinder, the big one being the fact that it’s free, but is has its cons as well which we will explore.

Sign up Process

Signing up is probably the most simple of any dating site. It operates through Facebook, so as long as you have Facebook, you can sign into Tinder and then set up your profile using your Facebook photos. You can choose which photos you want to be on your profile and which one you want to be your main profile photo. It has a limit of six photos that you can upload so choose accordingly.

Once you’ve picked your profile photos, you can write a little “About Me” and include your interests. It’s not nearly as detailed as other dating sites. One reason is most don’t even read the “About Me” section. I won’t lie….it’s all about your photos. The average person swipes right or left in less than 3 seconds and won’t read a word about what you wrote. They either like what they see or they don’t. Many times they won’t even look past your main photo, so make sure that main photo is your strongest and best photo.

How to Locate Potential Matches

In your settings, you have the ability to filter who you want to search for. You can filter by age in a 4-year window and also by location and mileage within that location. It will then show every single male or female in that filter. From there, you either swipe right if you like them or left if you don’t. You also are given one “Super like” every 24 hours which you should save for someone you really, really like. I’ll get to that more in a little bit. But once you’ve swiped right on someone, you have to wait for them to see your profile. If they swipe right, then it will show up that you both match. If they swipe left, you won’t know. It just won’t show up in your match.

The headache is if you liked someone. If there are 500 people in the other person’s filter, you could be the 400th person to show up in the lineup.

Super-likes are different. If someone super likes a person, it will show up early in the other person’s lineup. It will also tell you that they super-liked you and you have the opportunity to swipe right or left on them. Super likes aren’t unlimited, though; you get one super like for 24 hours. You can get more, but it’s not free; you can pay $5 for 5 super likes in a 24-hour time period or get an upgraded membership.

Also, be careful of wanting to swipe right for everybody you see. You only get a limited number of right swipes per 24 hours. Therefore, make sure when you’re swiping right, you are really interested in that person. You also are restricted to your local area. Tinder recognizes the location you are in and gives you matches that are around you.

How to Communicate with Other Members

Once you’ve both matched, you are free to message each other. You don’t need a paid membership to send or receive a message. A warning about Tinder, though: Be careful who you message or messages you. There appear to be quite a few fake profiles on Tinder. If you the least bit skeptical, get them to verify themselves with a picture before moving forward.

Also, you have to remember if you are a guy and match with an attractive female, she probably also has 50 other right swipes so don’t go throwing a fit if you don’t get a message back. Landing a big fish on Tinder is very hard to do. This is also where fake profiles come in.

Many guys will try and pick out a Brad Pitt look-a-like to use as their profile photos just to try and get to a good looking girl to message them. If you’re not a 10-out-of-10, you’re not to catch a 10-out-of-10. Tinder is a game where you stay within your ballpark. It’s very hard to get someone outside of it. I take that back: it’s virtually impossible. So try and stay in your lane.

Unique Site Features

Since its conception, Tinder has added several new features to its app to make it more fun and interesting. One of those features is Tinder Boost which is a way to get you more profile views. You usually get one boost a week, but when you do boost yourself, you are the top profile in your area for 30 minutes. You can get extra boosts by upgrading your membership.

Another recent feature is Tinder Picks. With this feature, you will receive 10 Top Picks for 24 hours, with profiles of other users that you may be interested in. The Picks are presented in a grid-like menu available on the diamond icon to the top. There’s also Tinder Social which is a way to invite your Facebook friends out for a night of fun using Tinder and then allowing other members of Tinder to see where you’re going and have them join in on the fun.

What is Included for Each Membership Level

Tinder’s memberships are not very expensive at all, but if you want the opportunity to get more super likes and boosts, a membership is worth it. With a paid membership, you can get more super likes for every 24 hours and have the ability to change your location. In other words, if you are in Tampa but want to search in Jacksonville because you are going there next week, you can search for others in Jacksonville. Without a membership, you’re restricted to your area. Another cool feature with a membership is if you accidentally swiped left and meant to swipe right, you can go back and undo it. You also have an unlimited number of likes and can control who sees your profile.

Overall, Tinder is a good experience. I can’t promise you that you’re going to find the love of your life on it. Most people use it to meet new people and then hook up. Occasionally you’ll find people who use it for a long-term relationship, but they’re few and far between. Then again, you won’t know if it’s true love unless you give the app a shot. It takes a few minutes to get set up, so get swiping.

Okcupid.com: I used OkCupid several times in the past and have never had success with it. It is 100% free to use and 100% low quality in my view. I can’t tell you how many messages I sent as a member of this site without getting a single response. Nevertheless, it has a massive membership base and I have friends who give it much praise (maybe they have the magic touch), so it is worth adding to your dating site list as a last resort.

OKCupid

Sign up Process

I was actually happy to see that OKCupid took some time to make sure people that sign up are serious about dating. Along with you having to fill out your basic profile questions, like age, education, hobbies, sexual orientation and all that, it takes you through a ride of, yup, you guessed it…..Personality test questions. It’s not nearly as painful and tiresome as eHarmony, and it is optional and multiple-choice based, but it can take some time. More on this in a minute.

You can use your Facebook or Instagram account to add your photos in to OKCupid. You can add up to six photos for your profile. It will also ask you to fill out a bio of yourself and what you’re looking for in the date. Before you are set to start searching, you have to answer a series of test questions. The fun part is you get to answer them twice; the first time is based on you, the second time is based on your date. The questions are actually pretty fun, though. They revolve around what kind of party person are you, are you clean or messy, situational questions that you would experience on a date and so on. You can skip some of them if you want, but the more serious you are about dating, the more you’ll want to spend time answering them. And if you are a guy and want to get messages back from legitimate girls, you definitely want to fill it out.

How to Locate Potential Matches

OKCupid uses an algorithm to match you up with others. It takes your personality test questions and profile answers into account and then tries to find the best matches for you to message and get to know. This is the DoubleTake feature I talk a little bit more about below. You have the ability to look at anyone’s full profile, which is usually very detailed and gives their personality test information. When you search, you can filter out what you are looking for in your date. However, you can only look up users who are online, so the search the options that come back will be limited.

The downside here is if you’re used to Match, there may not be as many matches to find. With you being limited to just searching for online users and the fact the site isn’t as populated as some others, you’re not going to find hundreds of matches. You may get one or two you find interesting per day.

How to Communicate with Other Members

In recent years, OKCupid has added some limits to the messaging service. In previous years, you could message anyone you want and that got the conversation rolling. Today, while you are still free to message anyone you’d like, the other person will only see it and be able to respond if they liked you back. So this is why it’s very important to take filling out your profile seriously as it could keep many from liking you and, therefore, messaging you. It can be frustrating, though, to send out a lot of messages and wonder if they’re ever going to message you back. Chances are they never read your message because they never hit the “like” button.

Once there is mutual interest, there is no holding back on the messaging service. You can exchange photos, exchange numbers and be on your way. While OKCupid encourages women to make the first move, it still is mostly the guys chasing after the girls.

Unique Site Features

There are a few unique features on OKCupid that make the site a little entertaining than just sitting back and searching for dates. There’s a chatroom you can enter and take part in, allowing you to meet people that way instead of waiting for them to like you back. Like mentioned above, there’s also the fun questions that you get to answer when first signing up for your profile. Like I said, the questions are actually kind of fun and not painful. There’s also DoubleTake which shows you one profile at a time with extended features based on who you are compatible with. This is where your answers and profile information comes in full focus as OKCupid finds others you’d pair up well with.

What is Included for Each Membership Level

While a lot of the features on the website are free, OKCupid does have some advanced features for you to use if you want to pay for a premium membership. The best paid feature is probably the fact you can see what other users liked you. This allows you to target in who to message without having to worry whether they’re going to like you back. Also, a membership gives you an “Auto Boost” once per day which is a feature that gives your profile more exposure during the peak hours. You essentially “pop out”. If you’ve used Tinder, it’s just like the Boost on that as well. Also, you can roam around ad-free and get to see who read your messages and who didn’t.

Bumble: The dating site with the fun name, Bumble is a female-first platform, emphasizing interactions led by women. Same-sex matches are also available, so Bumble has something for just about everyone.

Sign up Process

The first step in using Bumble is to sign up and make a profile. This process couldn’t be much easier, but through the convenience it does lose some greater depth. You’ll upload a photo, a short bio, and indicate which gender you are looking to match with. You will also need to let the matching program know if you’re looking for dates, relationships, or just friends. The process is super-easy, but if you’re looking for more in-depth quality to your profile, another site may be better for you.

How to Locate Potential Matches

When you’re ready to make matches, Bumble makes it easy for you. Similar to some other dating sites, you’ll swipe profiles left or right in order to show interest, or lack thereof. If two users show interest mutually, the match can begin. Because Bumble is a female-forward platform, the female in an opposite-sex match will need to make the first contact—and it must be within 24 hours. The good news is that men with a particular interest in a profile can extend that window for another day.

How to Communicate with Other Members

Communication on Bumble is as simple as the rest of the site and app. Once two users have mutually matched by swiping right, the female member (or either member, in the case of a same-sex match) can initiate the messaging process. Men cannot initiate, but they can extend the deadline for communication. This can feel a little stifling for men, but the messaging service is simple and easy to use once the connection is made.

Unique Site Features

Bumble has a few unique site features to show off, once you start looking. One great feature is an automatic import from Facebook, if you so desire to fill your profile out this way. The female-first dating style is also a breath of fresh air. However, you should note is that there is no desktop version of this app, so a mobile version is required. This can be stifling for those who are not living in the mobile age, but for most online daters having a great mobile app is a plus.

What is Included for Each Membership Level

Bumble will provide you with many ways to help make a great match, but it’ll cost you. Men can extend their contact period only once per day if using a free membership. You can also choose to “backtrack” an accidental swipe, but again, you only get three of these each day on a free account. Paid membership will bring other benefits, like the ability to see which users have swiped right for you, keeping matches that would otherwise have expired, and extending the communication deadline. You can save money by purchasing several months of premium service at a time.

Coffee Meets Bagel: Coffee Meets Bagel is a hip and sleek dating site helping to match couples around the world. With a membership of over 11,000,000, it shouldn’t be too hard to find the right person for you. Coffee Meets Bagel is, however, considered a “ladies first” matching site, so female users will have a little more leeway and control over their experience. The overall result is a great dating experience on a fun matching site.

Coffee Meets Bagel

Sign up Process

The first step in finding your match on Coffee Meets Bagel is to sign up. The matching site is mobile-only, so you’ll need a phone or other device. You’ll also have to link your profile to Facebook, as the site uses Facebook connections in order to make your perfect match. This is helpful, but some people may not like sharing Facebook information with a dating site.

How to Locate Potential Matches

Once you have your profile and signup complete, it’s time to start matching up with potential dates. This is where Coffee Meets Bagel differs from many other dating sites. There is no search or browse feature available. Instead, male users will get 21 specially selected profiles for potential matching. Based on their response to these matches, the women on the site will then see 6 potential matches specifically selected for them. While having no search or browse feature creates a more personalized match experience, some users may not like missing out on the freedom to peruse people on their own.

How to Communicate with Other Members

Everyone knows that communication is key to starting off any relationship, and it’s no different on Coffee Meets Bagel. Once members have made the initial connection (via the process described above), they can proceed to messaging. This is a free feature for both male and female users. There is also a free chatroom available, but it expires 7 days after the initial match.

Unique Site Features

Coffee Meets Bagel’s quirky name hints at unique features on the inside. One important factor to note is that you have to use a mobile device to access this site, so desktop is out of the question. Additionally, many users may also be surprised by the unique “ladies first” atmosphere, but Coffee Meets Bagel is geared toward a positive experience for everyone–and this method seems to work.

What is Included for Each Membership Level

As with most dating sites, you can get a leg-up on the competition by doling out some dollars… or “Beans.” You can do lots for free, including get free “Beans” on the site (the site’s currency) and message other users once the first connection has been made. Paid features include the chance to get more detailed activity reports on your matches and earn more “Beans.” You can sign up for a Premium Membership, or you can simply purchase more “Beans” as you need them on the site.

Asian Dating Sites

Match.com: While there are a lot of Asian-specific dating sites, they predominately cater to expats living in Asia. Since this article is about U.S. dating sites and apps, your best bet if you’re looking for Asian dating options will be to sign up for Match.com and then filter by ethnicity.

Most of the general dating sites I mentioned in Section 1 will allow you to search for Asians to date.

BBW Dating Sites

BBWCupid.com: You know I’m a big fan of the Cupid media sites. BBWCupid has the usual awesome, clean interface with all the functionality you will find in my most favorite sister site, BrazilCupid.com (for people living in Brazil). This site for plus-sized people is fabulous and has lots of members spread across the U.S. A quick search of women aged 21-35 who live in the New York area will return over 1000 profiles.

Sign up Process

The sign-up process doesn’t get much simpler than the one you’ll find at BBWCupid. The process takes less than five minutes, but it does involve a personality test that is more in-depth than some other sites. Any picture you upload will have to be verified first. This can be a little bit of a hassle, but in the end is a much-appreciated feature to keep you and others safe.

How to Locate Potential Matches

Once you’re signed up, you’ll want to start locating potential matches that fit your desires. The good news is that BBWCupid has a multitude of ways for you to go about this process. You can search other users, and you can also narrow your search to users who are online. You’ll also get automatic matches based on your personality profile, and these matches are unlimited as long as there are some to show.

Bear in mind that BBWCupid specializes in matching BBW and the men who look for them, so if you’re interested in a more diverse dating pool, this site may not be for you.

How to Communicate with Other Members

When you think you’ve got just the right match for you, communication can begin. BBWCupid makes it easy to communicate. You can always see which users are online, and then communicate with them directly using instant messaging.

Free users can hit up premium users as much as they’d like, but communication is not possible between two free accounts. If you’re up for more casual conversation, there’s a chat room as well.

Unique Site Features

Along with its specific goal to match BBW with the right men, BBWCupid offers a high-quality and unique site that sets it apart from the rest. You can look for love on desktop, or mobile, and both methods have full functionality. The free app is available to download and install on Apple and Android, and is as easy-to-use as the desktop version. The time and effort put into the interface of BBWCupid is a nice change from some of the cheaper-feeling dating sites out there.

What is Included for Each Membership Level

BBWCupid, like many other dating sites, offers bonuses and perks to paying customers. As with any dating site, the more money you’re willing to ante up, the better your chances of finding a great match.

This dating site is more generous than some others, offering many functions for free, such as messaging to premium profiles. You can upgrade to “Gold” or “Platinum” membership status levels to get more functionality, such as messaging to all users, VIP profile highlights, and a live chat with instant messenger.

BBPeopleMeet.com: In case you didn’t know what “BB” stands for, it stands for “Big and Beautiful.” BBW stands for “Big and Beautiful Women.” If you are plus-sized or regular-sized and are looking to date someone plus-sized, this site will cater to you.

BBPeopleMeet.com

Sign up Process

When you’re ready to sign up with BBPeopleMeet, the process is a breeze. It takes just a couple of minutes to create a profile. You will have to answer a few specific questions before proceeding, but there is no in-depth profiling or personality quiz to establish your profile. One nice perk is that you can have as many as 30 photos on your profile—but these will need to be approved by moderators, first. This is nice for quality control, but can slow down the process if you’re in a hurry.

How to Locate Potential Matches

Once you’re ready to locate potential matches, you can do it in a snap. BBPeopleMeet has an intense and thorough search program, which allows you to search (for free!) by username, online activity, gender, location, ethnicity, and more. If you’re looking for a detailed and exhaustive search experience, BBPeopleMeet may be great for you. If you want more automated matching, you might want to look elsewhere.

How to Communicate with Other Members

The

Once your match is made, it’s time to communicate. BBPeopleMeet has both a messaging service as well as a chatroom. But here’s the catch: you can only use the communication features of this site if you pay for a subscription. This means you can browse and search profiles, but you won’t be able to actually make that contact with your potential match unless you bring some money to the table. This is too bad, as the site is otherwise very accessible and open at the free level.

Unique Site Features

One nice feature of BBPeopleMeet is that it is accessible on both desktop and mobile. This means you can access your dating app anywhere in the world, or from the comfort of your home. The large amount of pictures allowed (30) is also nice, as is the careful moderation of the site. Photos and profiles must be approved before they can go active. The only downside to all of this is that–while the site is very generous in sharing information about its users–it is less generous in letting them make contact with each other.

What is Included for Each Membership Level

If you want to improve your chances at finding a great match on BBPeopleMeet, you’ll probably need to give paid membership a shot. This is because messaging is only unlocked to paid members. That’s okay, because the site offers a couple of different payment plans to help you get hooked up. This includes a Standard Service, which unlocks all features, and a Best Value Plan, which lets you save money on your membership over time.

Black/African American Dating Sites

BlackPeopleMeet.com: This site has a lot of users both in the U.S. and Canada. If I were starting a dating search for black people, I would start with Blacksingles.com and then go to this site after the well has run dry. For the best results, you can sign up for both sites. I’m always for casting the net as wide as possible. You never know what you are going to catch.

Sign up Process

Signing up with BlackPeopleMeet is easy and straight-forward. It will only take you a couple minutes, depending on how thorough you want to be. The site itself only requires your birthday and zip code to get started, but you can do more to create your profile, including filling out a short biography or uploading pictures of yourself. While the streamlined process is appreciated, it may result in sparse profiles that make the site harder to use.

How to Locate Potential Matches

Locating potential matches is streamlined and effective. There are dual ways for you to make a match on BlackPeopleMeet. The first is through your matches, which you will receive 11 of each day. These are curated matches meant to fit your profile. You can also search the member database to look for specific qualities you may want. This is a nice change from some dating sites that offer only matches or searching, but not both.

How to Communicate with Other Members

If you’re ready to communicate on BlackPeopleMeet, the process is relatively simple—though it may cost you. The site offers both messaging and chat options, but you cannot engage in this communication with a free account. You are free to view profiles, and even send “Flirts” (letting someone know you’re interested), but you cannot message or chat without upgrading to a paid account. This may be a downside to users looking for free access to a dating site.

Unique Site Features

One unique feature that BlackPeopleMeet brings to the table is games. There are a couple of games you can play as you engage with the site, including “I’m Interested” (a swiping game similar to other dating apps) or “Who Do You Like,” which pits two profile pictures against each other and lets you decide which one wins out for your interest.

What is Included for Each Membership Level

There are usually perks for paying on dating sites like these, and BlackPeopleMeet is no different. Creating an account, viewing other profiles, and “flirting” is free. After that, you’ll have to pay—even for basic communication. This is a downside to an otherwise effective dating side. If you are ready to pay, however, the site offers both a Premium Membership plan (unlocking all site features) as well as “Tokens” you can purchase in-app to use more features than a free user. This flexibility is nice, though it would be nicer to contact at least a few matches for free.

Afrointroductions.com:If I had limited money, I would stick to Match and BlackPeopleMeet. However, if you’ve run out of options, Afrointroductions.com is a decent third option. I used Afrointroductions with a lot of success during my expatriate days in Africa, and it has members in the U.S. as well.

AfroIntroductions.com

Christian Dating Sites

ChristianMingle.com: If religion is a big relationship criteria for you and you are Christian, I recommend you begin your online dating journey with ChristianMingle.com. It is completely free to sign up. Even as a free member, you will have a wide range of functionality uncommon among many online dating sites. The guys have been around since the dawn of the internet era in the 90s and have built up a huge membership base since then.

Sign up Process

What I like about Christian Mingle is it is simple, and I will never argue about a dating site that is straightforward and to the point. I think it takes into account that most of members are in their 30s and early 40s and have a lot of other things to do with their time, so therefore, they made it short and sweet. No silly personality quizzes, no dating assessments, no 100-page questionnaires; rather, just a simple profile to fill out with some questions to answer and elaborate on, and boom, you’re ready to find matches.

You do want to take time, though, answering the questions and talking about who you are. Like I always say, get creative because those reading your profile love creativity as well as humor. So take some time when you talk about yourself.

There is a verification process that you must go through to prove you are real and not a catfish Christian. Profiles are usually approved within 24 hours once they can verify that it is you.

How to Locate Potential Matches

Unlike eHarmony and some other dating sites, you are free to search anyone and anywhere. What makes it easy is the filtering process. You can narrow your results a lot on what you’re looking for. You can search by body type, whether they smoke or not, their age and location, what they’re looking for and so on. There’s also filters specifically for religious beliefs, which makes sense given who the audience is.

When searching for profiles, you can see everything that the other user has on their page, even without a paid membership. Christian Mingle doesn’t hide anything just because you didn’t pay a membership. Plus, with the detailed profile, you get a great illustration of who you are looking at and then can decide whether or not to take the leap and send them a message.

How to Communicate with Other Members

Just like with most dating sites, in order to communicate and send someone you’re interested in a message, you must pay for a membership. However, if you don’t have a membership and are lucky enough to catch the eye of a premium user, they can message you and allow you to message back. They also have chatrooms where you can go in and talk about a variety of topics, particularly about church and faith, and meet other guys and girls. Not a lot of people take part in the chat rooms simply because most people just want to look at profiles of other users and go fishing, but it’s still a pretty cool feature.

Unique Site Features

Like I said above, the site is pretty simple and to the point. There’s nothing crazy or fancy here. It doesn’t need any crazy games or features to sell itself to customers. Its main selling point is very simply the fact that it’s for Christians looking for other Christians. The chatroom is probably the most unique thing that’s on the site. You can also see most other users that viewed your profile and see who is online. Other than that, it’s pretty straightforward. You go on there and look at profiles of other Christians like yourself and if you’re interested, you say hello. If not, you move to another candidate.

What is Included for Each Membership Level

Getting a premium membership allows you to message both free users and other premium users. It also gives you the opportunity to hide your visibility online and go on and browse other profiles anonymously so they don’t see you in the “Who Viewed Me” section. You have the ability to hide your profile from other users. You can also see whether those you sent messages to read your messages.

ChristianCafe.com:ChristianCafe.com would be my second option after exhausting all the possibilities at ChristianMingle.com. It has a user-friendly interface and a super quick registration process.

Christian Cafe

Sign up Process

The best perk about Christian Café is you get a 10-day trial once you sign up. No need to go on a scavenger hunt for coupons or worry about paying money to message someone you find intriguing; once you sign-up, you have 10 days to test the waters. And signing up is pretty simple and straightforward. It asks for your basic information, such as your location, appearance, lifestyle, income and other generalities. With this being a Christian site, it also asks questions about your faith and church involvement.

Once you’ve gone through the basics, you can elaborate about yourself a bit more. Here’s your chance to showcase yourself and talk a little more in-depth about your faith. Make it interesting and clever as the more creative you are, the more your profile will stand out. Also add a good profile pictures and supporting pictures when you sign up. One downside is you are only allowed to upload three photos, so pick three quality ones.

How to Locate Potential Matches

Once you’re in and ready to search, you can filter out what you’re looking for. You can filter by age, location, type of Christian faith, activities, figure and so forth. You can also set it up in order by who is online last, who has been online in the last 24 hours and who is a member but has not been active in quite some time. Using the answers you provided in the sign-up process, Christian Café gives you a group of “Quick Matches” where it matches you up based on how compatible you are with other members. This is your chance to bypass the whole filtering process if you are just interested in finding those who are compatible with you.

If you’re used to other sites such as Match or even Christian Mingle, one thing you’ll have to keep in mind is Christian Café doesn’t have as many members as those other sites. That can be good and bad. You’re not going to find a thousand people online in the last 24 hours in your area when you filter through your results. It’s going to be slimmer pickings. But it’s slimmer pickings for them, too, so you don’t have as much competition as you would on some other dating sites.

How to Communicate with Other Members

App

Once you found someone you would like to get to know more, you can message away. However, if you don’t have a membership, you are blocked from making contact. Those on the 10-day trial are free to message but not give contact information out. You can try and be creative to get contact information through to the other, but I’ll let you think of that on your own. After 10 days, you will need to buy a premium membership and then you can share contact information freely without having to get sneaky and feeling like you’ve sinned.

Unique Site Features

Christian Café has a bit of an old-fashioned look to it. You get the sense it was made in 1999 and hasn’t been updated. It’s a bit archaic looking, but the site wants to have a simple and straightforward feel to it. The best feature is probably the QuickMatch Feature which speeds up the process for who matches up best with you. Like mentioned above, it takes into account all your profile answers and finds members who match most closely with yours and then suggest those matches for you. The site also has some pretty unique features that are appealing to its members in the community section. One feature that many take advantage of is the forums. This allows you to take part in discussions with other members and talk about all things, particularly church and faith.

There’s also a section where you can put your prayer of the day and share it with others. You also have the ability to see who is online and who viewed your profile. There is also a gift shop if you want to buy a user a premium membership. Might be worth it if you want them to message you; hopefully they will or that gift will be wasted. Lastly, they have dating advice from the site itself and veteran members as well as testimonials from those who met on Christian Café and are still together today.

What is Included for Each Membership Level

Prices for a premium membership aren’t all that outlandish; they are pretty reasonable. There are better deals for the longer memberships. With a premium membership comes the ability to send and receive messages, get read receipts, see who’s viewed you and who is online now. Also, in order to send winks, you need to have a paid membership, as well as the ability to send contact information.

ChristianCupid.com: I can’t help but add the Cupid-based Christian site, ChristianCupid.com, because it has such a pretty interface. I have had so much success with the Cupid-based sites that I am probably one of the company’s biggest advocates. I found love on a Cupid Media site (BrazilCupid.com). With that said, I would use this site as a third option if your two options above don’t give you the results you were looking for.

Gay and Lesbian Dating Sites

Match.com:Your best success if you are looking for gay and lesbian dating options will be to sign up for Match.com and then filter your search accordingly.

Grindr: Over the course of time, gay dating sites and apps have become more popular. It is a surprise it took until 2009 to create the first one. That first app happened to be Grindr, and despite the growth of gay online dating over the last 10 years, it is still considered by many as the place to go for those into homosexual relationships or hookups.

Now Grindr isn’t your eHarmony of gay dating. I would rather characterize it best as the gay version of Tinder. While it has made attempts to target more long-term relationships in recent years, it has the reputation of being a gay hookup app. It’s also a place to where many go to just meetup and make new friends.

Sign up Process

The sign-up process is very basic and simple, and it’s free to join. It asks you the basics, such as your age, income, body type, birthdate and other personal information. You can add a little bio about yourself to showcase what kind of guy you are for other men. You can also categorize your tribe, which is something interesting and I’m still trying to figure out. You can be a Bear, Clean-cut, Daddy, Discreet, Jock, Geek, Leather, Otter, Poz, Rugged, Trans or Twink. Don’t ask me what all those mean, I’m just going by the options that are on the screen. But bottom line is that it really shouldn’t take you 30-minutes to sign up unless you’re torn on which tribal you are. It’s as straightforward as they come in regards to sign-up processes.

The biggest red flag is the verification process. No email is required, no screening process, just upload your photo, fill out your answers and you’re good to go. In other words, you can pretend you’re anyone really easily. Hence, catfishing and Grindr have been coined together a lot.

How to Locate Potential Matches

Once you are set up, you can search what you’re looking for and filter out the results. Grindr will do geo-targeting first and foremost and set you up with singles in your geographical region based on your phone’s location, just like Tinder does. You also have the power to set your searches however you want. You can search by mileage in your region, you can look guys up by what type of relationship they’re looking for, you can search by age or you can even search by tribe. It allows you to look for what you want.

How to Communicate with Other Members

A lot of the messaging done in Grindr is photo sharing, which once again stresses the importance of being careful with fake profiles. However, sending messages is pretty simple and straightforward. It’s also free, so you don’t have to worry about paying for a membership just to message someone. However, you get more expanded messaging features with a paid membership, like sending multiple photos and being able to send “gaymojis”. With geo-targeting, you can see where others in the area are in proximity to you and ask them if they want to get together and meet up if they’re within a couple miles.

Unique Site Features

As far as features go, Grindr isn’t a dating app that is going to “Wow” you with its different side features. It’s a very old looking app that gives you the impression it hasn’t been updated since the cell phone was invented. The geo-targeting feature is probably the most notable feature, along with the ability to send your location to the person you’re messaging so you know where each other is. You can also use “gaymojis” in messaging with others, which are unique emojis not offered on your regular cell phone settings. You can “tap” other guys as well, which is like a wink on Match or poke on Facebook, to let them know you’re interested.

What is Included for Each Membership Level

The best part about Grindr is the fact that a lot comes with a free membership; therefore, you don’t need to fork over a ton of money just to be able to do certain things. There is Grindr Xtra which gives you the ability to do some more advanced things. For example, you don’t have to worry about pop-up ads and can view over 600 matches, compared to 100 with a free service. You can select multiple tribes for yourself and can filter it so you can only see online users only. You can also send multiple photos at once.

PinkCupid.com:PinkCupid is the lesbian-based Cupid Media site. Cupid Media is a brand that owns dating sites around the world (I found my wife on their Brazilian-based site, Brazil Cupid).

One of the best features I like is the verification of identity. Fake profiles are always a huge issue with dating sites, so I like how they have this option for people who want to let others know that what you see is more likely what you’re going to get.

Pink Cupid

HER: Just like there’s Grindr for men, you’ve got HER for women. The world’s largest dating/social app for lesbian and bi-sexual women has attracted a couple million users nationwide.

HER’s slogan is that it’s for queer women and made by queer women. This app is both for social and dating but has more of a social media kind of feel to it with the ability to add friends to your profile and look at other users’ friends list. If you’re a girl into girls and are looking for someone to hang out with or date, read up on some of the qualities that HER has to offer.

Sign up Process

In order to sign up, you must have a Facebook or Instagram page as that’s the only way to make an account. It will import some of your basic profile information, but you will also have to add other things, such as sexuality, relationship status, height, the type of female you are (i.e. lesbian, FTM, bisexual, gender fluid) and so on. HER recommends an upload of eight photos for your profile, but you can veer off of that and add more or less if you want. They do have a verification process, which is good because you know you are talking to real people and not catfishers looking to capitalize on your photos.

How to Locate Potential Matches

The first thing you’ll want to do is add friends, which is free to do. As mentioned below in messaging, you can only send messages to those who you are friends with and you can only search for those profiles who are matched with you. There’s also a carousel where you can swipe right or left on other girls, just like Tinder. This is called the “Meet” Feature, which is one of the two real premier features on the app. You have an unlimited number of “likes”, though, so swipe wisely.

You can also adjust your age and distance preferences for who shows up on your “Meet”; however, you can’t change the city you are in with a free membership. You can only be given results in your area. The other premier feature is the “Feed”, which is like a Facebook or Instagram feed. You can see other people’s pictures and posts and comment on them or like them, or vice versa. This is another way of adding friends and communicating with others.

How to Communicate with Other Members

Before you can start messaging away, you need to add members as a friend first. There are also ways to message with the Meet or Feed Feature. Once you’ve both swiped right on “Meet”, you can become friends and message. You can also find friends to match up with on Feed.

Unique Site Features

Besides the Meet and Feed features which open up your connections, you can see events that are posted in the feed and take part in those. This is a great way to meet others and obviously add more friends if you find others are going to HER events.

What is Included for Each Membership Level

When you pay for a premium membership, you can see different users who have liked your profile. Also, you can get some of the same features you can with a paid Tinder account, such as having an unlimited number of swipes and having the ability to change your location. You can also see who is currently online and you can get read receipts on messages that you send.

Interracial Dating Sites

As a black man who has done interracial dating in the past, I’ll tell you that there really aren’t any high-traffic interracial dating sites. There are some niche-specific sites like Interracial Cupid and Interracial Match, but your best bet is to sign up for one of the general dating sites/apps I mention in Section 1 (e.g. Match.com, Tinder, eHarmony, etc.), and then search for what you’re looking for.

Jewish Dating Sites

Jdate.com:Jdate.com is the king of kings for Jewish-based dating sites. This is simply the best Jewish-based dating site on the web and the largest too. If you absolutely run out of options at Jdate.com, you can try Match.com and filter by religion.

Sign up Process

When you’re ready to sign up for JDate and give it a go, things couldn’t be simpler. You can create a basic profile with just the minimal information: name, age, etc. This is nice if you want to get a fast start, but it’s also not so great when you run into a lot of profiles without more detailed looks at potential matches. If you want more success finding matches, create a fuller profile that details more about your biography.

How to Locate Potential Matches

Locating matches is the crux of every dating site, and JDate offers plenty of options. All members can search other member profiles for free, making it easy to see the wide base of users available on JDate. This is a refreshing change from many sites, where searching and looking at profiles has limited scope for free users.

How to Communicate with Other Members

Communication is the heart of any match, and doing it on JDate is a snap. There is one catch, though—it’ll cost you. Only paid members have the ability to contact other members, making JDate a little closed-off if you’re not willing to spend any cash. Free users can “like” profiles of potential matches, but e-mailing and messaging is only available for pay. This is certainly not the most generous dating app, but it follows a common model.

Unique Site Features

JDate is sleek and easy-to-use, with minimal clutter and great functionality. They have an app which is available on both Apple and Android platforms. It’s a fairly straight-forward app, but there are a few unique features—such as the online/offline events promoted by the app. This means you can find social gatherings (both online and offline) using the JDate app.

What is Included for Each Membership Level

JDate offers paid memberships to open up options in your dating game. If you want to communicate freely, for instance, you’ll have to pay. Free users only get profile creation and member searching. You can purchase a VIP Membership (for 1, 3, or 6 months) to open up communication. You’ll get other perks like a member spotlight, highlighted profile, and information on when your sent messages have actually been read.

Indian Dating Sites

If you are considering dating Indians, you are best off using one of the general sites I mentioned in Section 1 and filtering by race.

Latin Dating Sites

LatinAmericanCupid.com:This is the best site for dating Latin Americans. You will find some beautiful women (and men), particularly if you do a search around the larger cities in the U.S. such as New York. I’ve been a member of LatinAmericanCupid.com and can tell you that it is also a great site to use if you plan on venturing outside the U.S. to countries such as Peru or the Dominican Republic.

Sign up Process

When you’re ready to sign up for LatinAmericanCupid, the process is straightforward. The good news is that the Cupid family of sites is adept at getting quality profiles out of its users. This means you’ll spend a little more time than usual signing up, but the results of your profile will be better—and that means better odds of finding the right one for you.

How to Locate Potential Matches

The search for potential matches on LatinAmericanCupid won’t be too tough. You can show interest in users, or add them to your favorites for free, and then initiate communication from there. Because of the more involved profile process, you’re likely to find decent matches—but there are always cases of people not filling out their profiles, leaving you with little to go on.

How to Communicate with Other Members

On LatinAmericanCupid, once you’ve found a match, you can start communicating. Messaging is free between Standard and Premium users, but two standard users can’t initiate or make contact with each other. This is part of how Cupid runs all of its sites–so be ready to bring some money to the picture if you want full communication privileges. One you’re a premium member, you can communicate freely with all users.

Unique Site Features

If you’ve ever used a site from the Cupid family before, you may be familiar with “Cupid Tags.” This fun system lets you apply certain tags to your profile. These tags could be about hobbies or interests, such as “skateboarding” or “dogs.” They could even help your potential matches learn more about you professionally, like with a “waitress” tag. Searching, filtering, and browsing by using Cupid Tags is a fun way to add a layer to your romantic quest.

What is Included for Each Membership Level

If you want to get the most out of a matching site, you usually need to pay. This is the same case at Latin AmericanCupid, which offers both “Gold” and “Platinum” user experiences. Each level (Gold costing more than Platinum) are available for purchase in 1, 2, and 12-month stretches. The more you purchase, the cheaper the cost. You’ll get benefits like communication with all members on the site, live chat, an ad-free experience, larger profile space, profile highlighting, and access to more advanced search algorithms.

Senior Dating Sites

OurTime.com: If you are a senior (aged 50+), OurTime.com is an awesome site for you. It has a relatively reasonable monthly fee for the paid options and has pretty much all the functionality you would want in an online dating site, including video greetings.

Sign up Process

Signing up is pretty simple and straightforward on Our Time. You can wrap it all up in under five minutes. Just like with most sites, it requires you to enter what you are looking for, upload your photos (you can upload up to 30) and then answer some of the basic questions (i.e. what you’re looking for, education, professional field, etc.). You then write a little bio about yourself and what you’re looking for. You can also fill out more open-ended fields, select interests (i.e. movies, cooking, etc.) and take a multiple-choice quiz to help match your compatibility with others.

Once you’re set up, you can start browsing away. However, more of the expanded features, such as messaging, only come with a paid membership, which they will try and hook you on with early in the process. There is no identity verification, either, so be careful of those catfishers, although if you’re catfishing in your 50s, or catfishing others in their 50s, I suggest an appointment with a psychiatrist.

How to Locate Potential Matches

When you first login, you’ll be given a list of ten matches based on the answers you provided in the sign-up process. You’ll also have an opportunity to go on the “I’m interested” merry go-round which is where you can view each user one-by-one and state “Yes or No” on whether you’re interested or not. Both of these features will showcase the match’s main profile picture, their age, location and tagline. You have to click on their picture to dive deeper into the profile to find out more about the person and see their bio.

Most people will want to go in and use the search function and filter out what they want in their matches, which is easy to do on Our Time. You can search by age, location, what other members are looking for, interests, whether they have kids, zodiac sign, body build and so on.

When you come across those you are interested in, you can send them flirts to show you are interested in them, like the photos they’ve posted, or go in and send a message if you have a paid membership. As you’re surfing through profiles, if you find one that stands out and you want to stalk all the time (okay, maybe that’s going too far), you can add them to your favorites. One bummer for some, though: You must have a profile photo uploaded in order to be seen by others. If not, no one will see your profile. Therefore, make sure you get that photo of yourself up.

How to Communicate with Other Members

Like mentioned above, if you’re interested in other members and want to send them a message, you will need a paid membership unless you were fortunate enough to get yourself a free trial subscription. In that case, message as many as you can before your free trial runs out. Viewing profiles, sending flirts and liking photos is something you can do with a free membership, however. More on this is the membership section. You can also send users virtual gifts if you desire to do so. You can also chat with others using the pop up window on the side.

Unique Site Features

Our Time has a lot of different features for you to partake in, which may or may not be a good thing. With a lot of these users older and maybe not as tech savvy as the younger generation, having too many features could overwhelm this group, not to mention many in this age range just want to find a date and go out, not mess around with all the crazy features. Nevertheless, there are a lot of features for its users to take part in. The first unique feature is ConnectMe which allows you to talk and text to other members offline while keeping your phone number private.

You also have the merry-go round mentioned above which is a Tinder-style game of swiping yes or no on different males or females. Our Time also gives you different message ideas if you are struggling for ways to get a conversation rolling. You can choose up to four questions to send to your person of interest so they can answer them and break the ice. The online site also has a chat window showing you who is online and available to message. It also has a little social media feel to it with a community newsfeed that updates members birthdays, picture additions, status updates and more. You can also take part in video chats or upload videos to your profile.

What is Included for Each Membership Level

In order to send messages, you need to get a paid membership. Other things that come with paid service include the ConnectMe feature discussed up above, highlighting your profile to other users, as well as the ability to see who viewed you and if others read your messages. Also, the NotifyMe option comes with a paid membership which is the ability to let you know every time a user you are interested in logs in so you know they are online.

Silver Singles: If you are single, in the golden years of your life and feel like your chances of finding love are over, Silver Singles gives you some hope. The dating app and site is only for those who are in their 50s and serious about finding love later on in their life so they’re not spending the second half of their life alone.

What Is The Best App For Dating In Usa

Silver Singles is basically the rival to OurTime, another dating app and website that tries to attract singles in their 50s and above. The first thing I noticed in viewing the two sites is that OurTime is more closely aligned with Match.com while Silver Singles is a lot more like a senior version of eHarmony. A lot of the same rules and restrictions you see on eHarmony you also get on Silver Singles.

Silver Singles

Sign up Process

Signing up is pretty simple. You just need an email to get started and then you can begin filling out the basics of yourself, such as age, education, the type of romance you’re looking for, work, body build, what you’re looking for in a partner and so on. Once you’ve filled out the basics, you will want to upload some photos to showcase yourself. Then comes the “oh so fun” personality test that you have to fill out. Yes, Silver Singles has one of these.

In order to match you up more accurately with other singles, Silver Singles wants you to answer a long series of questions which covers your dating history, questions about what you look for in a mate and a lot of situational questions. With this in mind, it’s not going to be a two- or three-minute sign-up process. Rather, you want to give yourself a good 45 minutes to make your profile and get started. Therefore, pull up a chair, relax and take your time because it’s going to be a while.

How to Locate Potential Matches

One of the questionable features on Silver Singles is the searching process. Unlike many dating sites, you don’t have the freedom to search for whatever you want. Rather, based on the answers on your personality test, Silver Singles will “fix you up” and give you five matches a day for you to look over and decide if you want to message. That match will stay on there for the rest of your membership, though, so it won’t disappear. You can send them flirts to let them know you’re interested or message them if you have a premium membership.

One of the other downsides to Silver Singles is if you don’t have a paid membership, you cannot view other members’ photos. It basically ties your hands up behind your back until you go premium. It truly is a website for people who are very serious about finding love and not just fooling around searching for fun.

How to Communicate with Other Members

In order to send messages to other users, you must have a premium membership. Once you do, you can message away and also take part in online chatting if you are both online. You can also talk to multiple people at once using the chat window on your screen, but can only message those who the site has matched you up with before.

Unique Site Features

Most of the features that Silver Singles offers is for those who get a premium membership, so make sure you jump on that as soon as you sign up to truly enjoy your experience. That being said, there really isn’t a whole lot of unique features other than the basic ones mentioned above. The personality test and the matching up is the main feature that Silver Singles offers. Another feature is the ability to chat online with other users you are matched with. The website is well-designed and easy to navigate and use, which is good for some users who may not be as tech-savvy.

What is Included for Each Membership Level

Truly, in order to truly enjoy the website, you need to pay for a membership. This allows you to not only send messages to other viewers, but also view other members photos on the site that you are

The best advice I can give you is to not use Silver Singles if you’re looking for something casual or for a hookup. It’s the furthest thing from Tinder; it’s more for long-term romance. I also urge patience because not only is the sign-up process time consuming, but finding someone can be as well if you are picky. Like mentioned above, it only gives you five members a day, and it’s not an overly crowded site, so you need to be open about what may be out there and what you can get.

Single Parent Dating Sites

SingleParentMeet.com: This is the largest dating site on the web for single parents. If you are divorced or raising a kid by yourself, I recommend you start your dating search at SingleParentMeet.com.

Sign up Process

The process of signing up for SingleParentMeet is straightforward and simple. Like many sites, you can keep your profile more or less detailed according to your preference. You can keep the details to a minimum, or go as far as answering more narrative-based ”Personality Questions” or “My Top Interest” in order to create a more comprehensive profile. As always, the more time you’re willing to commit to your profile, the better the process seems to proceed.

How to Locate Potential Matches

Matching with potential profiles is quick and streamlined—which is good if you’re a busy parent. If there is one thing that is missing from the matching experience, however, it’s learning about your potential match’s children or family situation. This isn’t always something you’d look for in an app, but when the site is geared toward single parents, it’s an important factor.

How to Communicate with Other Members

Communication is the key to a great relationship, and SingleParentMeet gives you plenty of options—for a price. With a free membership, you can “flirt” with other users and see which users are a match for your profile. If you want to take it farther with instant messaging and chat rooms, you’ll have to pay for a premium membership. Flirting and liking photos is a great way to get communication started, but it would be nice to have the ability to do at least some free messaging or chatting.

Unique Site Features

SingleParentMeet brings some extra unique features that you don’t see on every dating site—like babysitting connections! When you make match with this site, there are also options to set up a babysitter to take care of the kids while you’re out. This feature is convenient, and a great value for any single parent.

What is Included for Each Membership Level

You can usually expect to need to pay some money to get all the perks and benefits of a dating site, and SingleParentMeet follows this model. Creating a profile with pictures, viewing and searching for matches, and “flirting” or liking photos is all part of the free experience. If you upgrade to a Premium Membership, you’ll unlock the usual bevy of dating site features. This includes the full gauntlet of communication features (messages, chat, flirting, etc.), a site economy featuring “tokens” and gifts, and a slew of proprietary dating tools including PromoteMe, ConnectMe, and MatchMe. The free experience gives you a taste of what you can get, but paying offers the full functionality you need to really make a match.

There you have it folks. The list above are the best online dating sites and apps in the United States.

Good luck!
